The genius of Jane Austen – Paula Byrne

Friday, September 8, 2017
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Her love of Theatre and Why She is a Hit in Hollywood

Austen expert and author of The Real Jane Austen, Paula Byrne, looks at adaptations of Austen’s novels from A A Milne’s Miss Elizabeth Bennet to modern classics, including the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, Emma Thompson’s Sense and Sensibility and Clueless. This revised edition of Paula’s first book Jane Austen and the Theatre, features Austen’s love of farce and comic theatre, her sometimes filthy juvenilia and how these aspects of her writing lend the novels to adaptation by film, TV and theatre. She presents an Austen not of prim manners and genteel calm but filled with wild comedy and outrageous behaviour.

Lunch afterwards is available booking made through the Theatre Royal box office only.

Tickets: £10

(or £24 with lunch) from Theatre Royal Box Office 01225-448844 or theatreroyal.org.uk
