Persuasion was published together with Northanger Abbey in December 1817 and distributed in early 1818, the first edition says 1818. Publication was arranged by her brother Henry and sister Cassandra after Austen’s death in July 1817. Both novels are largely set in the city of Bath and it is still possible to find the following places mentioned in Persuasion:-

Assembly Rooms
Bond Street
Camden Place (now Camden Crescent)
Gay Street
Laura Place
Market Place
Marlborough Buildings
Milsom Street
Octagon Room (at the Assembly Rooms)
Pulteney Street (now Great Pulteney Street)
Rivers Street
Theatre (was the Old Theatre in Old Orchard Street)

The novel is full of wonderful characters, such as vain Sir Walter Elliot who in Bond Street had ‘…counted 80 women go by without their being a tolerable face amongst them…’
