The Summer Ball is a stand alone event held three months before the Jane Austen Festival in September. Held at the Guildhall in Bath it is a great chance to get your dancing shoes on, meet new friends, and wear your Regency finery!

Doors open at 6.30pm, you arrive through the main doors to the Guildhall and make your way upstairs, where you are announced by the Master of Ceremonies into the Ballroom. Tables are arranged to seat 10 and a table plan indicates where you will sit.

The dancing will be called by Diana Campbell, with music by the superb historical dance band Green Ginger. Dinner in the form of a two course buffet will be served at the half way point, and there will be the opportunity to play card games, overseen by John White of Select Society.

Please note, there will not be a bar at this event, but you are welcome to bring your own wine and other drinks. Glasses, including wine glasses will be provided on the tables, along with water. There is a Waitrose 150m from the Guildhall for those of you wishing to purchase drinks nearby to bring with you.

Dance Workshop

Saturday 29th June 2019. 2pm – 3.30pm

The Guildhall, High Street, Bath  BA1 5AW

During the afternoon, prior to the Ball, will be a dance workshop held by Diana where you get the chance to practice your Regency steps, and learn some of the dances that will be called during the evening. Don’t worry if you’ve never done any Regency dancing before, the ball is aimed for people of all dance abilities, but the workshop is always a great place to get a preview of the evening dances.

You don’t need to have a partner to attend the Ball or dance workshop. Everybody is welcome whether partnered up or single, as the dancing events are always the best places to form new acquaintances and friendships, you may even find your own Mr Darcy!

When attending the dance workshop it is not necessary to wear costume, but comfortable shoes are essential, and it is always advisable to bring a drink with you.

Summer Ball Costume

The Summer Ball is a costumed event, everybody that attends wears Regency or 18th Century period clothing. For more information regarding Regency costume click here.

Please be aware there are no changing facilities or luggage storage at the Guildhall, so arrive dressed in all your Regency finery ready to enjoy the evening!

This year, instead of celebrating a specific Austen novel, we will be picking out everyone’s favourite moments and chapters from the books. This is in preparation for the September festival, where throughout the week we will be reading all your favourite chapters and quotes from the novels. During the Summer Ball we would like to invite each ball attendee to vote on their favourite chapter, and maybe get involved by reading it during the September Festival.

When you have purchased your ticket please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or allergies by email to Georgia at  summerballjafestivalbath@gmail.com

If you are attending as a group and bought your tickets separately you must inform us asap after purchase to ensure your party are sat together on the same table.  Please email Georgia at summerballjafestivalbath@gmail.com
