Summer Ball outline
The Summer Ball is a stand alone event held three months before the Jane Austen Festival in September. Held at the Guildhall in Bath it is a great chance to get your dancing shoes on, meet new friends, and wear your Regency finery!
Doors open at 6.30pm, you arrive through the main doors to the Guildhall and make your way upstairs, where you are announced by the Master of Ceremonies into the Ballroom. Tables are arranged to seat 10 and a table plan indicates where you will sit.
The dancing will be called by Diana Campbell, with music by the superb historical dance band Green Ginger. Dinner in the form of a two course buffet will be served at the half way point, and there will be the opportunity to play card games, overseen by John White of Select Society.
During the afternoon, prior to the Ball, will be a dance workshop held by Diana where you get the chance to practice your Regency steps, and learn some of the dances that will be called during the evening. Don’t worry if you’ve never done any Regency dancing before, the ball is aimed for people of all dance abilities, but the workshop is always a great place to get a preview of the evening dances.
You don’t need to have a partner to attend the Ball or dance workshop. Everybody is welcome whether partnered up or single, as the dancing events are always the best places to form new acquaintances and friendships, you may even find your own Mr Darcy!
When attending the dance workshop it is not necessary to wear costume, but comfortable shoes are essential, and it is always advisable to bring a drink with you.
