2019 Charity

The Jane Austen Festival charity for 2019

The Forever Friends Appeal is the fundraising charity for the Royal United Hospitals (RUH), Bath.

With the help of the incredible generosity of our local community, the minimum £8.5million fundraising target needed for the pioneering new Dyson Cancer Centre has been reached. However, the Appeal is continuing the Cancer Care Campaign as many donors, including people who take part and support the Jane Austen Festival want to sustain the campaign to maximise the fundraising efforts for the new Centre. We want to ensure it is truly special in its design, facilities and equipment, stepping ever closer to transforming Cancer care for thousands of patients in their time of need.

Spearheading the Appeal is the Cancer Care Campaign – which will help fund the build of a pioneering new Cancer Centre at the RUH. The need is great as the current Cancer unit is located in a number of single story red brick buildings on the north of the hospital site and whilst the quality of clinical care is excellent, they do not reflect the quality of clinical care provided within.

The aim is to build a new and pioneering Cancer Centre which balances the RUH’s clinical expertise with the provision of a nurturing environment – that is centred on patient care and experience, reducing stress and anxiety, whilst promoting health and thereby embracing a ‘holistic’ approach for patients and their families.

The building will take a holistic design approach to provide a ground-breaking facility, promoting a healing and therapeutic environment for our thousands of patients and their families. Not only will this allow our patients to be treated with appropriate space and privacy, protecting their dignity at an incredibly difficult time, but will also act as a model of care for other District General Hospitals around the UK.
