A big thank you to Alison Day for the lovely description of her time at the Jane Austen Festival, promenading in costume, and exploring Bath.
The Grand Regency Promenade
When visiting Bath in 2010, I remember seeing photos , in a shop window, of people dressed up in Regency costume . On finding out that it was a promenade and part of the Jane Austen Festival, I knew I wanted to be part of it. In 2014 I heard about the Guinness Book of Records challenge, and now being retired, I thought here’s my opportunity. So with a friend, and costumes made, we joined the throng of Regency/Georgian ladies and gentleman. Absolutely loved it. Met Rachel Knowles then, and Owen Benson and had a photo taken with “Mr Wickham”
That was the beginning, so in 2015 my friend and I were joined by her daughter, my niece, another friend, and my Mr Darcy. What a year that was!! Lots of photos taken ,not just by Owen but by many tourists. It was great getting to chat with others from all over the country and abroad., and getting reacquainted with Owen.
Then followed the years 2016 (joined by another friend) , 2017, 2018 and 2019 (joined by another friend and her husband!). Meeting more enthusiasts of all things Regency and Jane Austen and getting to speak to Jackie. We are totally hooked on the Promenade!
