Earlier in this decade, a good friend and her husband attended the Festival and came home to California full of stories of the amazing time they’d had in Bath.
In 2014, 14 of us “invaded” from California. We rented the “Admiral’s House and settled in for 10 amazing days in Bath. We got up every morning and put on our clothes; we went to balls and drove out into the countryside going to Chawton and Lyme. I’ve been a re-enactor for 46 years (now) and this was one of the best costumed experiences of my life.
To be in Bath, in Regency Dress, dancing in the same places that people danced in 200 years ago; to soak up the history of this charming city; to wander around the (mostly) empty streets, late at night…..it’s really an indescribable feeling. If I had to use one word, it would be “joy”. Being in Bath, during the Festival fills me with joy! Part of that joy is also having met and befriended so many wonderful people over the years from England and the Continent. It brings us all together in a like-minded hobby. It makes the world a little smaller… more intimate.
We are now on an “every other year” rotation and are in England in the “odd” years. The Festival is #1 priority when booking our vacation. I can’t imagine life without it.
